Southwind Drive Greater Roadrunner
This magnificent and most unique photo was taken by Michele Wright at the residence of Michele and Terry Wright on Southwind Drive directly in front of the Wright's Arkansas harvested and most prized Pomegranate tree!!! It is evident by its relaxed summertime pose that this signature bird of the desert Southwest is now a signature and most welcomed addition of the dwelling Southwind!!! This "Greater" Roadrunner has been a constant habitant of Southwind Drive for "Greater" than the past five years and counting!!!

First, I am fascinated with the beauty of the tree-- pomegranate, strange and tasty, is my favorite fruit. :) Secondly, this photo captures the bird's haughtiness yet somehow we can also sense its oneness with its surroundings. I plan to have my students analyze this photo for tone, imagery, and details. Thanks for posting.

commented almost 2 years agoThis photo is absolutely perfect for the Capture Arkansas contest. I think what the title "Capture Arkansas" is meant to convey is what we as everyday people run across in our daily lives, things that are not staged, not propped, and not "perfected" in any way shape or form. I think having the opportunity to be able to photograph such a bird like this at that close of a proximity is really what this contest is all about. From one photographer to another - whether professional or amateur, hats off to you for this beautiful picture!

commented almost 2 years agoWhat a fabulous picture that captures the eclectic spirit of Arkansas! The Roadrunner bonding with this lovely Pomegranate links Arkansas to both the past and future. The Pomegranate has once again been respected for its salubrious properties, and the Roadrunner is the bird to remind us to appreciate this important tree. What a smart bird to sit and admire. This is a moment of worship for both brother/sister bird and brother/sister tree. Kudos Michele! Thanks for offering your tree and this photo.

commented almost 2 years agoIt's almost as if the bird was posing for the picture. The colors are vibrant, the image is sharp, the composition is on point. I find this shot interesting because you might not see the bird right away, but when you notice the blue feathers against the white cement your eyes follow them up and then you say "WOW"! Nice work.

commented almost 2 years agoThis picture captures Arkansas at it's best!!! What more can you can ask for!!! You have the perfect lighting scheme. The shadows you captured brings depth and your zoom is right on target. When I look at this picture I am able to stay on subject with what you're trying to capture and I'm not distracted by other objects in the picture. The use of the leaves gives you an advantage bringing more of the greenery in with the roadrunner. Arkansas is the Natural State and you illustrated that exceptionally well!!!

commented almost 2 years agoGreat Picture!!! I'm just going to have to say Kendall did it on the explanation. I can say me too!!! commented over 1 year agoNow that voting for the book is over and I don't feel like I'm contributing to the chaos surrounding this photo I thought I'd say what I thought the first time I saw it.
I was intrigued by the ability to capture such a fast animal in such a quiet moment. However, I did not feel this photo stuck out to me. It has nice color, but would be something I passed over without stopping if I were looking through a book. To me, there is too much going on and so my eye only scans it instead of stopping to really look.
Although I realize with this type of subject you didn't really have a chance to circle like photographers like to do.
I hope you don't take this as me being negative, I meant to post this the first time I found it in my random searching but with the comments at the time I felt it would be out of place. Essentually I have torn feelings about it, but wanted to share my thoughts. I do hope this comes across as positive criticism. =)
Otherwise, good capture, I'm sure he didn't stay there long!
Michele Wright
commented over 1 year agoFirst, thank you so much for your honest feedback and I am so glad you provided me with honest feedback.
To be honest, I realized that everyone wasn't going to like my photo (it's impossible) and I had no problem with that. I just felt that the brutality of the remarks were more personally targeted attacks against me than professional feedback for my photo.
So, before I knew it, I felt like there was an entire organization of photographers that personally had a negative ought against me. And I regret as well that the whole situation got blown out of hand; especially because of my admiration for some of the photographers that lambasted me.
This is why I have been keeping up with all of the Facebook comments; but haven't felt comfortable enough to congratulate everyone. I didn't want to open up the door to bringing any additional negative feelings against me or the most positive nature of what the Capture Arkansas team has successfully implemented. It has been phenomenal to say the least and the photographers and their photos have been equally as phenomenal.
And I have no doubt that with a lot of these photographers being the "Best of the Best", it is so much invaluable information to learn from them (as it pertains to the true art and science of photography).
So, again, I don't take your feedback as negative but as positive constructive feedback. Furthermore, if you did not mean it for good, you would have just jumped on the bandwagon earlier.
And If you have any suggestions for my photo taking moving forth, I would love to hear and receive. Again, much thanks and appreciation; AND A HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND ALL THE MOST DESERVING ARKANSAS PHOTOGRAPHERS. YOU ALL SIMPLY ROCKED!!! Sincerely, Michele
