To the Stormy Lining
Always a favorite subject - the boardwalk at Stout's Point, Petit Jean State Park. You can also see it in B/W on my website.

commented 4 months agoMark - I really like the haziness of your shot. Just wondering how you did it? (Before you answer you probably need to know I have a Kodak point and shoot). I don't know if that will matter or not. But I love the effect you've achieved in your shot!.

commented 4 months ago@Lisa It's what I've taken to calling "soft-blanket HDR" : HDR done with a very gentle hand, and then I apply a "glow" to the darkest shadows and brightest highlights - similar to the Orton Effect or filters used in glamour portraits.
Try searching for tutorials on how to make HDR-like photos from single exposures; how to apply a glow to a photo; and "The Orton Effect"... There's a lot you can do with a point'n'shoot. (I actually love the things!)

commented 4 months agoThank you, Mark! I think I owe you tuition for a college course in photography, eh?

commented 4 months agoI've actually been asked to write a tutorial on this, and probably will someday - but I'd like to make sure I can replicate the effect with nothing but freely-available software, and I'm still experimenting with some of it...
