I found this poor little baby bluejay at the foot of a big oak in my yard, a victim of the gusty winds that were blowing on Saturday April 28. He is now in a cage, and my daughter is doing her best to restore his health.

    Snake in the Grass

I see these little critters in my yard every spring, often in pairs. This one was a loner today. Its a Western Ribbon Snake, commonly referred to as a garden snake. They are quite harmless, and as docile as they seem to be I wonder how the species survives.

  • Astronomical by Doug Holloway

    Astronomical

Venus, Jupiter, and a crescent moon got together this weekend and the result was this triangular formation. I hope the two planets are visible here, it was difficult balancing the light between them and the relatively brighter moon. Would a filter of some sort have been helpful? Night sky photography is very new to me. Any hints, tips, or suggestions would be much appreciated!
